Why the Loss in Karnataka is Good for BJP

I think that the electoral loss in Karnataka will do more good than harm for BJP in the long term, and here are 4 reasons why

  • BJP’s government in Karnataka was the party’s Achilles heel – the only weak spot that prevented it from launching a full-fledged attack on UPA government’s unbeatable record on corruption. Now that it is no more in the way, BJP can try to corner the central government on the issue of corruption
  • A few months ruled by Congress before 2014 elections will give voters the time to forget and forgive the faults of BJP government and turn the anti-incumbency factor against Congress.
  • The people’s verdict against corruption in Karnataka brings hope that a similar sentiments at the national level will turn the tide in favour of BJP and its allies in the 2014 elections to Lok Sabha
  • BJP leaders in Karnataka can channelize their efforts into strengthening the party at grassroots level and preparing for the next electoral battle, rather than be distracted by internal power struggle (which is likely to haunt Congress now) and governmental responsibilities.
